The Ultimate Girl’s Day Out was brought to us by the co-founders Shentra Mack and Jarvis Hepburn of Fabulous Girls Rock at the elegant and plush Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables on Sunday, August 6th. Miami’s own Radio/Media Personality and host of HOT TALK on Hot 105.1 FM, Jill Tracey hosted the beautiful and delicious VIP Luncheon that kicked off the afternoon’s festivities. As we sat at pretty tables adorned with glittery pillows, flowers, gem candles, and sequenced silhouettes, we listened as Jill shared stories about her experiences and private struggles in her career and how she refused to allow her circumstances to deter her from her goals and aspirations.
She introduced us to a panel of entrepreneurs, Jessica Garrett Modkins, Brand Ambassador, Shelly Rockstar, DJ and CEO of Love Our Locs, Natasha Hampton, Assistant City Manager of the City of Miramar, and Jenifer Smith, Sex Therapist and they also told of their own individual plights in Corporate America and the ups and downs of living in this world as a woman of color. The theme or underlying thread of the afternoon was to never give up on the things you want and to know that God has sent each one of us on a uniquely carved out mission. We are a community and the more we come together and share with, and of each other, the stronger we are, the sisterhood. Jill Tracey says, “I AM MY SISTER”.
We were then escorted upstairs to the second half of the party by the most adorable sisters, wearing black and pink T-shirts identifying themselves as the “Sparkle Squad”. We walk into a banquet hall filled with jewelry, a henna artist, coffee, clothing, and cosmetic vendors, lined up around the room. There are Queens on the dance floor “wobbling’. There was great fun in the air. There were several performers and a fierce, hip and stylish fashion show by First Class Productions.
We felt such a warmth from the overflowing loving camaraderie in the room, from all of the love, support, and community there. Fabulous Girls Rock events are a definite “must attend”! So many intelligent, creative, successful, and talented women in one place and it was such a pleasure to be in attendance. Looking forward to the next one!
